Sage
SAGE (SENIOR VOLUNTEERS GENERATING ENRICHMENT) has a pool
of 150 senior volunteers who tutor students and enrich curricula with
their expertise and first-hand accounts of careers, travel and history
in 16 school districts and 24 agencies serving youth. This past year,
55 SAGE volunteers spent 4,300 hours working with young people. Example:
"Mr.
Stone had contributed significantly to the educational growth and
development of the students in the Electronic Engineering
Technology Program. Without Mr. Stone’s help, there were
students in the program who would not have successfully completed
the program." –Teacher
at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology. Sage was developed in 1990
and utilizes the skills and experience of mature men and women
as tutors, mentors and classroom presenters.
Their work complements and supplements the educational resources
of the local schools.
Sage’s diversity of services seems
limitless, as the educational community realizes the powerful role
seniors can play in the lives
of young learners.
