Nominate a Hero for the Citadel Community Hero Award

 Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties

Award Details


Citadel, RSVP’s Diamond Level Sponsor and Partner, will present an award to a Community Hero, nominated by the public and selected from among three finalists.  Nominations will be accepted for Montgomery, Chester and Delaware County residents or those working in either county.  Three finalists will be selected from Montgomery county and three from Delaware and Chester county combined.  The Community Hero Award will be presented during RSVP’s two Annual Volunteer Recognition Events: one in Montgomery County, held in June and one in Delaware County, which will include Chester County nominees, held in May.


  1. Nominee Criteria:

The public can nominate one community member, age 18+, who reflects heroism, acts of kindness or good works from the categories below. Nominee should exhibit exceptional dedication and devotion to their cause and provide assistance or generosity to another community member(s). The nominee must either live or work within Chester, Delaware or Montgomery counties.

  • School or After-School Volunteer
  • Volunteer Working with Seniors
  • Good Samaritan


  1. 2019 Nomination Period / Deadline:
  • Montgomery County nominations begins March 15 and ends May 15
  • Delaware and Chester County nominations begins February 1 and ends April 15


  1. Nomination Process:
  • Citadel and RSVP websites will have nomination forms that can be submitted online.
  • Nomination forms can be requested by calling (610) 834-1040 x.171
  • Nomination forms and ballot boxes available at Citadel branches


  1. General Guidelines for Nominations:
  • Pay special attention to the narrative Why are you nominating this hero section of the form as this will provide the reviewing committee with key and perhaps the only information used to make their selections. A personal story works best.
  • Citadel branches have a supply of nomination forms and ballot boxes where nomination forms can be deposited.
  • Forms can be mailed to: RSVP, 901 E. 8th Ave. 8th Ave. King of Prussia, PA 19406, Attn: Hero Contest, by closing dates. Montgomery County opens on March 15 and closes on May 15. Delaware and Chester County opens on February 1 and closes on April 15.
  • Committee members will review each nomination for viability of exceptional efforts.  Three finalists will be selected from Montgomery county and three finalists will be selected from Delaware combined with Chester county.  One winner will be selected from among the three finalists from Montgomery county and one winner will be selected from among the Delaware and Chester county finalists.
  • Committee members include: Citadel management, RSVP volunteer, Representative from Montgomery County Aging & Adult Services and Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging, Police Captain, Chief of Operations - EMS, Curriculum Director at Upper Merion School District, Assistant Superintendent Phoenixville School District, Media representatives and community members.
  • Incomplete nomination forms will not be considered.
  • Nominee must consent to completion of a background check in order to qualify and if selected as a finalist.
  • Any information included on the nomination form may be included in promotion and advertisement of the Community Heroes Award.


  1. Privacy Notice:
  • The names of nominees will not be released until they have been selected as finalists.
  • Nominator will be contacted if their selected Hero has been selected as a finalist in order to secure permission to contact finalist.
  • Nominator and finalist agree to publicity including media release, Facebook and Twitter posts.
  • All three finalists will be required to submit to a background check.


  1. Award Presentation:
  • Winner will be presented with an award during RSVP’s Volunteer Recognition Event in the county of the winner’s residence. 
  • Citadel will make a $1000 donation to a nonprofit charity of the winner’s choice.
  • Citadel will award each finalist with $100.


Nominate a Hero Now
